The "Mariah is defrosting" joke goes back to around 2017, when people online started saying that Carey spends the year frozen and thaws out at midnight on Halloween, because "All I Want for Christmas Is You" (1994) climbs back up the charts every November. Carey leaned into it herself. For several years now she has posted a short video on November 1 that ends with her declaring "It's time!", sometimes literally breaking out of ice, and the clip has become the internet's unofficial start of Christmas season.
This year's version has her in a red Santa dress on a snowy peak. Searches for "mariah carey its time 2026" and "mariah defrosting 2026" spike in the first days of November, mostly from people who want the clip itself, the GIF or the sound for their own posts. The ReelMe template takes the key beats of the 2026 video and puts you in her place, so the post reads as "I have also defrosted".
Some people use it straight, as their own season opener on November 1. Others send it to the friend who starts playing Christmas music too early, or to the one who refuses to until December. Both work, and both are better when the face is recognisable. Use a sharp, front-facing photo with the hair visible, since the template is built around long hair and the dress; men and kids come out fine too, they just get the full Mariah look.
ReelMe is not affiliated with Mariah Carey. The template is for personal posts and messages.
